What & When?

Updates on what happened during the year and opening date!

Published on August 17, 2017 On General

On the 17th of August 2016, exactly one year ago, we have promised you regular updates through our blog. Even though we have been posting regular updates through photos on social media, our blog has been dormant till date. Perhaps we should make it a yearly update on the 17th of August.

Last year we attempted to answer the “Who & Where”, now we are thrilled to be able to talk about the “What & When”! Because what have we been up to in the past 12 months?

What?

Trips

As we have mentioned before, the Maldives consists out of 1192 small (mostly uninhabited) islands. Being surrounded by beautiful nature and amazing wildlife, one would imagine that all furniture and kitchen equipment has to come from abroad. In January we visited Indonesia to get inspired, talk about, and eventually order most of our furniture. In March we had a short trip to China for our kitchen equipment, crockery and gym equipment, followed by Sri Lanka to discuss linen, curtains and monsoon blinds.

From May till August we have been busy clearing containers, making sure they were loaded from ship to ship to eventually end up on the shores of Dhigurah.

Marketing

Our social media accounts have gotten a lot more love than our blog. You have been able to find us on Facebook  and Instagram, and soon we hope to share exciting videos on our YouTube channel.

After many iterations, we have fine-tuned our website as well, though we always see room for improvement! Furthermore, we have visited ITB 2017 (Berlin) to have a look what is going on in the world of tourism these days, and attended the guesthouse conference of the Maldives to get better acquainted with our local peers and partners.

Staff

Our staff members are hired! We are super excited to be surrounded by an amazing team of young enthusiasts! Mostly local go-getters, but we are happy to have some foreign talent to work with us as well. Even though we are not open yet, the first (partial) staff outing has taken place. During “birthday season” (we have multiple folks with their birthdays in the same week of July), we hopped on a dhoni (local boat) for a scuba dive, and later in the evening to catch some fish that ended up on the barbecue.

Hotel

Rooms
Our rooms are almost done! We have a total of 16 rooms with 4 different room types. There are 3 small rooms (of which two are connecting rooms), 8 standard rooms, 4 connecting family rooms and 1 suite. More information about the rooms can be found here.

Coffee bar
We are equally thrilled about our indoor dining area. Even though it is a small space, we went all out on coffee! We’re looking forward to showing off our latte art!

Gym
We are pretty excited that our gym is ready! With two treadmills, an exercise bike, yoga mats, free weights and a pull up bar, you can get your workout in before heading over to the beach.

Rooftop

The main area that is still undergoing construction is the rooftop. There are two jacuzzis coming in by the end of the month and the monsoon blinds are currently getting installed. Keep an eye out on social Media for pictures (very soon)!

Kitchen
The kitchen is pretty awesome. Equipped with a (lava rock) grill, salamander, heat lamps, a dumb waiter (so that you can enjoy your meals on the rooftop terrace) and several blenders for fresh smoothies, we are ready to make some food!

When?

Easily the question that we get asked the most. We weren’t able to meet our original summer dates due to unforeseen construction delays. However, we should we wrapping all of the pending work before the end of August. Keeping our fingers crossed for the government permits and inspections…

…we are opening our doors in September 2017!
